Considered as visible language, words are the mainstay of graphic design. In this subject, students will learn how to handle large amounts of words and letters, a skill that requires a knowledge and expertise of the history and use of typography – the primary form of visual communication. This unit explores typographic message making in various forms, mostly contemporary, and focuses on sophisticated typographic solutions as practiced by the top designers in the world. Experiments with creative formats, and how speech may be visually translated in graphic form are encouraged.
